Good Show....Poor Crowd
Sevendust was hard core as usual, with Puddle of Mud being alright. Chevelle, the band that I really wanted to see, was awesome when I saw them a few years ago in a small venue in Baton Rouge. They were pretty good in this larger arena, but it was not the same. I just wish they had played more of their old songs from their first album. 10 Years was good, but short, done after only 30 minutes. Waitress, the headlining act, was great as expected, but by the time they came on stage, the crowd was subdued. Brent, the front man for Waitress, spent most of the show desperately trying to energize them. Honestly, the crowd was the biggest disappointment during the entire show, with most of the balcony crowd sitting and the floor folks not moshing, crowd surfing, or jumping up and down even once. Brent announced several times that "We belong to you guys for only one night, enjoy it!" and that "We are in the business of making memories." The biggest memory I will take away from this is the realization of why there are almost never any rock concerts in Lafayette. If this were Tisha Yearwood or Kenny Chesney, the dome would have been packed and people would have been pumped. But for rock bands, the Cajundome never sells out and the crowd is the most subdued. This show probably would have been terrific in New Orleans or anywhere else, but here, it was just okay. Overall, though, the lineup was great and the bands did their best to pump everyone up. This was a good show with a ton of great bands. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who loves any of these great bands.
